Charles “Chuck” McGraw Jr.

Charles “Chuck” McGraw Jr. passed away August 29, 2022, at home surrounded by family after a year-long war with cancer. He was 48.

Chuck was born May 23, 1974, in Sitka to Chuck Sr. and Nancy McGraw. He graduated from Sitka High in 1992, then earned his journeyman carpentry certificate from North Idaho College in Coeur d’ Alene. Returning home he became a pivotal part in the family construction business. He was a project manager, skilled carpenter and a talented heavy equipment operator. These skills allowed him to manage many large construction projects in Sitka.

Chuck married Angela Williams, his high school sweetheart, in 1995. Although they later took separate paths they remained friends. They were blessed with two sons Alec and Jackson. Chuck was devoted to raising these boys into honorable men. He took pride in instilling a good work ethic.

Leading by example he showed them how to “Work Hard, Play Hard, Love Hard.” He spent countless hours with them making dreams become a reality by building homes and flying airplanes.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Chuck became a private pilot and flew hundreds of hours in the company plane with Senior traveling to construction projects throughout Southeast Alaska. Through these experiences he developed his passion for aviation. His love of flying has been passed down to his youngest son.

Chuck enjoyed outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and snowmobiler and spent most weekends out on the ocean. In 2011, he designed and built a troller, the Boondocker, on which he commercially fished for several years alongside his sons, creating many fond memories.

Chuck found the love of his life, Crysti Goodwin, in 2017. He and Crysti were inseparable until he passed away. They shared many laughs and adventures and were excited about their future together. 

Chuck had a great sense of humor and a memory second to none. He was a kind and gentle soul, and his many friends and family appreciated his huge heart and willingness to help whenever needed.

He was a very private and humble man who cared deeply for his family and friends. He made a point to see his mother daily, and on Friday and Saturday nights, you would find him gathered around visiting with his family while sharing appetizers.

He was an amazing son, brother, father, uncle, cousin, partner and friend. Chuck has left his loved ones with many fond memories to cherish. His time was cut short, and he will be forever missed.

Chuck is survived by his sons, Alec (Johanna) McGraw and Jackson McGraw and Cyleena Pellett, all of Sitka; his partner Crysti Goodwin of Sitka; parents Nancy and Chuck McGraw Sr., Sitka; and brothers Chad (Lisa) McGraw of Maui, Hawaii, and Chris McGraw and Jessica Holland of Sitka.

He’s also survived by uncles Dormand (Kathy) McGraw of Nevada and Jon (Cindy) McGraw of Sitka; aunts  Michele (Tim) McGraw-Burd of Oregon, Laura (Terry) Larson of Lake Chelan, Washington, Judy Pugh of Fort Worth, Texas, and Toni McGraw, Sitka.

His nephews are Caleb (Sara) McGraw of Bellingham, Washington,  Finley McGraw of Maui, and Jagr McGraw, Landon McGraw, Colton McGraw, all of Sitka.

His nieces are Kinzie McGraw, Cadance McGraw and Olyvia McGraw all of Sitka.

His former spouse, Angela McGraw, and numerous cousins also survive. 

Chuck was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dormand and Marie McGraw, and Harold and Betty Weisenburger; uncles Robert McGraw and Michael McGraw; and cousin Dormand McGraw III.

A celebration of his life will be held later for close family and friends.

Chuck enjoyed fishing the Sitka Salmon Derby annually, so the family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Chuck McGraw Jr.’s memory to Sitka Sportsman’s Association, PO Box 3030, Sitka, AK. 99835.

The family expressed gratitude for all the prayers, condolences and support that’s been shown in a multitude of ways during this very difficult time. The family also extended special thanks to SEARHC and all of their services.
