Douglas Roy Rudolph Sr.

Douglas Roy Rudolph Sr. of Kent, Washington, died unexpectedly in his home on May 19, 2022. He was 61.

He was born March 10, 1961, at St. Ann’s Hospital in Juneau. He attended school in Sitka from the time he was in eighth grade, and graduated in 1980 from Sitka High School, where he excelled in sports. Afterward he moved back to Juneau and worked for the state as a press machine operator, for more than 15 years.

He moved in 1995 to Kent, where he made his home and started his own digital print and designer business, Raven Copy Center. In its first three years, it received the City of Kent’s Small Business Excellence Award.

Douglas was proud of his Tlingit heritage, T’akdein taan, T’axh Hit. He was proud to be given the name of his uncle, Paul Rudolph, Kaach Xhaan.  He also wore his basketball number, 44, all through high school.

Douglas is survived by his love and soulmate Paula White, of Kent; his mother, Evelyn Hatmaker of Sitka; daughter and son-in-law Evelyn and Kevin Keiffer; the joys of his life granddaughters Isabella and Stephanie, all of Puyallup, Washington; daughter BreAnn Inglesby of Everett, Washington; his son and namesake Douglas Roy Rudolph Jr., and his love Sherri Romine of DeBary, Florida; sister and brother-in-law Elaine Hatmaker and Bernard Wolfe and their kids, Roxanne Lindoff, Robert C. Lorenzen Jr., Chadem Wolfe; and, last but not least, Tina Wolfe, who shared birthdays with her uncle.

Also surviving are his brother, Dorcy Hatmaker Jr., and his boys, Dorcy Hatmaker III, Hunter Hatmaker and Michael Douglas Hatmaker, all of Sitka.

A service and a celebration of Douglas’ life will be held 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at the Salvation Army. All are welcome to come.
