In Loving Memory of Ky Johns

Ky Michael Johns

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of Ky Michael Johns, 38, who passed away in his home on Sunday, September 3rd, 2023.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, at the Sitka Assembly of God, 214 Kimsham Street. Those attending are welcome to bring along a favorite dish and plenty of memories to share.

Ky was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. Those who were fortunate enough to know Ky can attest to his loving nature, constant positive attitude, selfless acts of service, and the most admirable love for his four beautiful children, Kaiden, 14, Elijah, 5, Ezekiel, 3, and Zayne, 15 months; and the love of his life, Crystal.

Ky had an unparalleled ability to light up any room he entered. His infectious smile, contagious laughter, and boundless energy could turn even the darkest days into moments of joy.

He had a heart that was as big as his smile, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. His kindness, compassion, and generosity were all testaments to the remarkable person he was.

A GoFundMe campaign has been created to help assist with the significant financial burdens in covering the funeral and end-of-life expenses for Ky Johns, as well as to cover any other additional expenses that arise for this his family in the next coming months, as Ky was the sole provider for his family. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference and ensure that Ky’s memory is honored with the dignity and respect he deserves. The GoFundMe campaign can be located online at the following web address: https://www.gofundme.com/f/ky-michael-johns.

Let us come together as a community to support Ky’s family during this time of grief. Your contribution will not only help ease the financial burden, but also serve as a tribute to the love and light that Ky brought into all of our lives. In Ky’s memory, we strive to carry forward his legacy of kindness, laughter, and love. Thank you for your generosity and for helping us celebrate the beautiful life of our dear Ky.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Ky’s loved ones

In honor of Ky, we would like to share the two pieces of scriptures that Ky cherished most:

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.” – 1 Corinthians 13:4-13

“For I now the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11

Thanks to the generosity and expertise of the the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska broadband department, Tidal Network ; Christopher Cropley, director of Tidal Network; and Luke Johnson, Tidal Network technician, SitkaSentinel.com is again being updated. Tidal Network has been working tirelessly to install Starlink satellite equipment for city and other critical institutions, including the Sentinel, following the sudden breakage of GCI's fiberoptic cable on August 29, which left most of Sitka without internet or phone connections. CCTHITA's public-spirited response to the emergency is inspiring.
