Martina Bangloy Miguel
Longtime Sitkan Martina Bangloy Miguel passed peacefully in her home surrounded by family near and far through video chat, on Monday, May 6, 2024. She was 88.
Martina (née Bangloy), was born October 23, 1935, in Daligan, Jones, Isabela, Philippines. She grew up in Isabela Province and met her late husband, Hilarion Miguel, a delivery driver from Laoag City. After a long courtship, Hilarion succeeded and assured her family that he would provide for her. They married March 14, 1954, in the Philippines.
Approximately 30 years later, they immigrated to the United States and moved to Sitka on February 14, 1984. In Sitka, she worked at the Westmark and at McDonald’s for more than two decades! She worked long, long hours to provide and support her family in Sitka and in the Philippines.
In retirement, she enjoyed playing cards with her husband on the couch and loved Filipino Soap Operas. At a young age, Martina picked up the harmonica, and she loved music, singing, and dancing. She will also be remembered for the most delicious Filipino banana fritter called baduya and a delightful Filipino rice cake topped with caramelized coconut cream called sinuman.
Martina was preceded in death by her husband, Hilarion Miguel; her mother, Eugenia Bangloy; her father, Dionicio Bangloy; and siblings Agosto, Bibiana, Leticia, Pablo, and Quirino.
She is survived by her sister Lilia Bangloy of Sitka; daughters Josie Ancheta (Robert) and Marchelle Rodrigo (Zaldy); grandchildren JR Ancheta, Aiza Miguel, Dazlymar Rodrigo-Grenadier (Nash), RJ Miguel (Kylee Jones), Luckyrae Miguel (Paige Craig), Dhariel Rodrigo; and great-grandchildren Kyler and Julianna; nieces Susie Martin, Maria Warlita Martin; a nephew Rudy Martin; and many grandnieces/nephews and great-grandnieces/nephews. She also leaves behind her beloved great grand-dogs: Toby, Maizy, and Bumi.
Pallbearers are Nash Grenadier, Luckyrae Miguel, Ronnel Piza, Dylan Dumag, Zander Dumag, Zaldy Rodrigo, Robert Ancheta, Aedon Dumag, Dhariel Rodrigo, Pete Villanueva and Levi Cumlat.
Friends and family of Martina are invited to attend the funeral Mass at noon Wednesday, May 15, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m.
