David Jackson, Laháash
David Jackson, Laháash, was born October 20, 2007, to Koren DeBell and Thomas Jackson III in Sitka. David passed away on September 21, 2024, at the age of 16, in a car accident on his way home from a fishing trip to Blue Lake.
David was known for his goofy, free-spirited nature and protective demeanor that endeared him to many.
David attended Pacific High School and was a passionate outdoorsman. His love for the natural world was evident in his career path as a commercial fisherman aboard the F/V Lucky Star, and his favorite hobby, fishing for Dolly Varden. His connection to the outdoors shaped much of his short but vibrant life.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Paul Demmert Jr.
David is survived by his parents Koren DeBell and Jeremy Elam of Sitka; siblings Tristynn, Carver and Jadyn of Sitka; grandparents Michael and Jacklyn DeBell of Sitka, great-grandmother Ruth Demmert of Kake, and uncle Michael DeBell (Joanna) and Rebekah DeBell of Sitka.
His honorary family members include Mary Johnson of Juneau; Maxine, Sheena, Steely, Tyler and Kye Vaughn of Sitka; and too many other cousins and extended family to name.
A service to celebrate his life will be announced in the coming days.
David’s life, marked by his spirited personality and his profound connection to the Alaskan lifestyle, will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His absence will leave a void in the hearts of many but his legacy as a protective friend and enthusiastic fisherman will endure.
