Lucas Spencer Williams
Lucas Spencer Williams, a life-long Sitkan, passed away Monday morning on November 18, 2024, in his home. He was 35.
Lucas was born April 25, 1989, in Sitka, to Dale and Lucinda Lucy Williams.
Born with pervasive development disorder, as an adult he developed schizophrenia. Despite many social challenges, Lucas was very gifted, kind, compassionate, considerate, and generous.
Growing up, Lucas was a Boy Scout, from Tiger to Star. He earned many merits, including the God in Country medal with the Salvation Army. He loved playing baseball in Little League. Lucas also had a newspaper route that he delivered for 10 years.
In school, Lucas was musically inclined. He enjoyed playing the flute in band. He also played in jazz band, where Mr. Kernin helped him learn to transpose his music, a skill he was proud of. In high school, he was on the cheer squad for two years. In the 11th grade, he quit school and got his GED with the highest marks on the exit exam at that time.
Lucas took a lot of care and pride in his work. After school, he obtained his CNA license but served the community in other ways. He worked at McDonald’s for many years and was well known as the window man at the drive thru. He is remembered for wearing his favorite McDonald’s Nascar jacket and friendly smile. He also loved dressing up as Super Mario for Halloween while taking care of customers.
One day, Lucas’ friend Maxine encouraged him to apply for a job at SEARHC. With her support, he landed a job in sterile processing. He always made sure patients received the best care by his fastidious attention to cleaning the surgical instruments and equipment. Lucas became a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) in December 2023.
When Lucas wasn’t working, he enjoyed creating art, especially for his loved ones. He made personalized cards, wood burning art, and worked with pastels. Around Christmastime, he would help his mom mass produce their homemade Christmas cards and pass them out.
When he wasn’t creating art, he built models, enjoyed watching anime, being tech savvy, and a genius at puzzles. He also prided himself in self-learning languages, particularly Tagalog and Japanese. But his greatest gift was building gaming computers for his friends.
Lucas had very dear people in his life. He was very close friends with D.J. Brincefield, David Rear, and Erin Coykendall, and a very special friend and former caretaker, Pam Ashe.
He loved his Bengal cat Chloe very much.
Lucas was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Jim and Flora Williams, maternal grandparents Walter Ware, Gladys Bertelson and step-grandfather Del Bertelson, and brother Peter.
Lucas is survived by his parents Dale and Lucinda Lucy Williams, brother Paul Williams, and his precious cat Chloe.
Lucas leaves behind memories of a kind soul who left an impact in our community and in our hearts.
A celebration of Lucas’ life will be held at a future date.
Condolences and contributions may be sent to 204 Princess Way, Sitka, AK 99835. There is a gofundme Lucas Williams Memorial and Unexpected Costs to help pay for funeral and other expenses. There is also an account set up at Tongass Credit Union under the name Lucas Williams Memorial Fund.
