Sidney James Fry, a man with great spirit, great heart and who was “bigger than life,” died Dec. 8, 2011, at his home in Payette, Idaho. He was 77.
Sid was born Feb. 5, 1934, in Indian Valley, Idaho, and went to high school in the Council, Idaho, area.  He worked for his brother-in-law, Bud Jones, driving logging trucks. He volunteered for the draft, and served two years in the armed forces and eight years in the reserves.
After graduating from San Jose State with honors with a degree in business, he went on to receive a degree in pharmacy from Idaho State University in Pocatello.
His dream was to live in Alaska and pursue a business career there, as well as follow his dreams of hunting and fishing in the wild.  This took him to Juneau where he met his wife Amy Pedler.  Meeting her and passing the pharmacy boards were what Sid came to call the beginning of the Sid Fry Luck. They moved to Sitka where the Sid Fry Luck brought them a home on the ocean and the adoption of two beautiful children, Chall and Heidi.
During those Sitka years, Sid met Les Yaw. They became hunting buddies and business associates, with Les selling the Harry Race Building to Sid and Sid becoming the new owner of Harry Race Pharmacy.  In 1981 Sid and Amy opened Fry’s Pharmacy in the Lakeside Shopping Center.  Sid retired in 1985 selling Harry Race Pharmacy to Dave Moore and Fry’s Pharmacy to Trish and Dirk White.
After retirement, the Frys moved to Centralia, Wash., and tried their hand at raising cattle. After about 10 years they moved to Idaho to be closer to Amy’s family; unfortunately, in 2002 Sid lost his beloved Amy and was left alone.
After meeting through eHarmony, he and Catherine were married at the end of February 2004.
Sid’s greatest legacy is his children and his grandchildren, Amy Jo and Alice, but a close second is his encouragement of young people to strike out on their own, to work hard and success will follow.
Sid was preceded in death by his   wife of 37 years Amy Pedler Fry; his parents Charlie and Elsie; his sisters Leta and Janice; and Amy’s parents Dick and Marge Pedler.
He is survived by his wife Catherine of Payette; his son Chall (Julie Wong), his daughter Heidi (Scott Harmon), and granddaughters Amy  Jo and Alice all of Portland, Ore.; his sister Eileen Free of Seattle; and his beloved brother-in-law Bud Jones, as well as many nephews, nieces and extended family.
