Arlene Gamble

Services for Arlene Emma Gamble, a lifelong Sitka resident, will be held 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at Eagle Quest Ministries Church, 601 Alice Loop Road.

Arlene died March 14 at SEARHC-Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital, at age 50.

She was born May 27, 1961, in Sitka, at Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital, the daughter of Anita (Duncan) and Arthur Gamble. She graduated from Sitka High School in 1979 and attended the University of Alaska Southeast, Sitka campus.

She was administrative assistant at Sitka Tribal Enterprises.

“Arlene was an amazing mother and woman,” her family said. “Everything she did was for her kids and others. She always attended her kids’ school functions and sporting events. She loved spending time with her family – and she loved to laugh.”

She was a member of the Sitka Mountain Rescue team, and enjoying hiking, cooking, attending church, and music.

She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Gamble Sr., and a brother, Arthur Gamble Jr.

She is survived by her mother, Anita Wright of Sitka; son James Craig (Sarah), of Sitka; daughters Kristina Stixrud (Ben) of Kodiak and Kelly Barnaby (Matt) of Juneau; brothers and sister; eight nieces and three nephews; and many others in her extended family.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Sitka Mountain Rescue.

CCTHITA’s public-spirited response to the outage is inspiring.

The Sitka High School jazz band and vocal jazz choir both gave command performances to an audience of some 5,000 at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow, Idaho. ... The SHS band director is Brent Purvis.
