Services have been scheduled for Joyce Irene James, a longtime Kake resident who died there June 10.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, June 15, at the Sitka Assembly of God Church. Following burial at Sitka National Cemetery, a reception will be held at the church. Those who wish to do so are welcome to take finger foods.
Joyce was born April 12, 1935, in Heartland, Maine, the daughter of Priscilla Morrill (Annis) and Richard Mason. She grew up in Harmony, Maine.
She married Wallace I. James Sept. 20, 1971, in East Bridgewater, Mass., and in 1972 they moved to his hometown of Kake.
She was a beautician, and owned and operated a restaurant. She owned and was operating Town Taxi in Kake at the time of her death.
She is survived by her husband, Wallace I. James of Kake; daughter Shawna Akins of Florida; son Mitchell James of Seattle and grandson Zachary James of Haines; son David Dalton and grandson Michael Dalton, both of Kake; daughter Sarah Smith and son-in-law Michael Smith of Sitka; grandson Corey Kadake and granddaughter Chandler Kadake, both of Kake and granddaughter Hayley Smith of Kake and grandson Michael Smith Jr. of Sitka; and sister Sheila Bangs of Allentown, Fla..
Numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in Maine also survive.

The Youth Totem Pole Project blessing of the log ceremony will be held at Sitka National Historical Park visitor center. Pacific High youths and carver Tommy Joseph will be introduced and the story and design of the totem pole project will be presented.

Sitka Volunteer Fire Department reports ice on Swan Lake is 7-9 inches deep and safe for skating. However, officials warn skaters to avoid the end of the lake near Lakeside Grocery, since the ice is thinner there.
