Paul Perkins

Paul Perkins, a commercial fisherman here for many years, died Feb. 28, 2013, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma, Wash. He was 73.
He was born Jan. 20, 1940, in Portland, Ore., the son of Russell Albert and Ruth Frances (Litherland) Perkins. When  he was young, the family moved to Tacoma, where he graduated from Stadium High. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years, and was a proud veteran of the Viet Nam War.
He  received a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Puget Sound, and taught elementary school.
Paul was a loving irritant to all who knew him, and he was fond of telling a story on himself. In fact, he wrote this part of his obituary himself, lest one of his cronies put the caption “Gone Fishing” on it.
He was easily entertained – a crossword puzzle could keep him occupied for days.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen, sons Kyle Perkins and Arthur Perkins, daughter-in-law Tina and grandchildren Christian and Kylie Perkins, all of Tacoma; sisters Sandy of Tacoma and Phyllis of North Carolina; a brother Dave Perkins of Lakewood, Wash.; his Aunt Virginia of Nevada; all of his loving friends; and his cat Sushi.
A potluck celebration of his life was held March 9 at VFW Narrows Bridge Post in Tacoma.
Friends can contact the family through his son Kyle Perkins, 2709 186th St. East, Tacoma, WA 98445.

Thanks to the generosity and expertise of the the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska broadband department, Tidal Network ; Christopher Cropley, director of Tidal Network; and Luke Johnson, Tidal Network technician, SitkaSentinel.com is again being updated. Tidal Network has been working tirelessly to install Starlink satellite equipment for city and other critical institutions, including the Sentinel, following the sudden breakage of GCI's fiberoptic cable on August 29, which left most of Sitka without internet or phone connections. CCTHITA's public-spirited response to the emergency is inspiring.
