Services for Aida T. Castillo will be held 1 p.m. Monday, April 8, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. Fr. Jim Blaney will officiate.
Burial will be at Sitka Memorial
Park.
Viewing will be 5 to 8 p.m. April 5 and 1-4 p.m. April 6, at Prewitt’s Funeral Home.
Aida died April 3 of sarcoma at Sitka Community Hospital. She was 66.
She was born Nov. 8, 1946, in Vigan, Philippines, the daughter of Avelino A. and Aurora A. Alebin Arce.
In 1970, she traveled from the Philippines to Honolulu, Hawaii, to pursue her dream of giving her parents and siblings a better future in the United State – a dream she fulfilled. She moved to Sitka in 1980, and made it her permanent home.
She loved cooking, and was a cook for 23 years at the Sitka Pioneers Home, and part-time for McDonald’s restaurant.
She liked reading and watching her favorite TV shows, and greatly enjoyed traveling, in the U.S., the Philippines, Europe and Germany.
Aida was very giving, loving and positive, and a hard worker,
She took care of everyone, and her whole family will forever be grateful for her selflessness and devotion, a family member said. “Her relatives, friends and co-workers will miss her dearly.”
Aida was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic church.
She is survived by her husband, Mario A. Castillo; sons Adolfo Tuzon and Glenn Tuzon of Sitka and Justine Castillo of the Philippines; her mother, Aurora A. Arce; siblings Mario Arce, Ray Arce, Efren Arce, Dennis Arce, Olive Carrazco, Wilma Buen and Lindao Ragadi; and grandchildren Sayer Tuzon and Kekoa Tuzon.
Also surviving are brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mario A. Castillo, 102 Austin St., Sitka.

The Youth Totem Pole Project blessing of the log ceremony will be held at Sitka National Historical Park visitor center. Pacific High youths and carver Tommy Joseph will be introduced and the story and design of the totem pole project will be presented.

Sitka Volunteer Fire Department reports ice on Swan Lake is 7-9 inches deep and safe for skating. However, officials warn skaters to avoid the end of the lake near Lakeside Grocery, since the ice is thinner there.
