Louis Philip Floor

Louis Philip Floor, a former Sitka resident, died at his home in Las Vegas Nev., on April 10, 2013. He was 60.
    He was born in Las Vegas on Feb. 13, 1953, and graduated from Las Vegas High School.
    Mr. Floor came to Sitka in 1984, and worked at Spenard Builders Supply. He moved to Chugiak in July 1994, and lived there until 2011 when, for health reasons, he returned to Las Vegas, where his mother and sister were living.
    Although his life started and ended in Las Vegas, his happiest years were spent in Alaska, his family said. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and boating.
    He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

    He is survived by his son, Philip Louis Wayne “Bud” Floor of Chugiak; daughters Tara Uddipa of Las Vegas, Trisha Floor of San Diego and Krista Hammock of Sitka; his loving mother, Carol Jean Brown of Las Vegas; a sister, Ginny Young of Las Vegas; grandsons Trevor Uddipa and Kealani Uddipa of Las Vegas, and Gavin Hammock, Trenton Hammock and Killian Hammock, all of Sitka; and other members of his loving family.
    A family service was held in Las Vegas. No services are scheduled in Sitka.

The Youth Totem Pole Project blessing of the log ceremony will be held at Sitka National Historical Park visitor center. Pacific High youths and carver Tommy Joseph will be introduced and the story and design of the totem pole project will be presented.

February 1975

Sitka Volunteer Fire Department reports ice on Swan Lake is 7-9 inches deep and safe for skating. However, officials warn skaters to avoid the end of the lake near Lakeside Grocery, since the ice is thinner there.
