Former Sitka fisherman Mark Douglas Rawley, 54, of Winlock, Wash., passed away after a hard fight with cancer on Friday, May 17, 2013, in Olympia, Wash.
Mark was born in Juneau on April 19, 1959, the son of Ila and Howard “Red” Rawley. After graduating from Winlock High school in 1977 he officially began his fishing career. For the next 30 years he fished out of Sitka, on the F/V Stamsund.
In the early 2000s he retired from fishing and became a CNA and worked his way up to being the union representative for his area.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Ila and Howard “Red” Rawley; brother Mickey Rawley; and brother-in-law Earl Sayers.
He is survived by his sister Linda Sayers; his children Doug Orr and Deanna Allison; and his grandchildren, Dakota and Dillon Peavey, JD Orr, and Rilynn Thomas.
A memorial service is still being planned. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Cattermole Funeral Home 203 NW Kerron St., Winlock, WA 98596.

The Youth Totem Pole Project blessing of the log ceremony will be held at Sitka National Historical Park visitor center. Pacific High youths and carver Tommy Joseph will be introduced and the story and design of the totem pole project will be presented.

Sitka Volunteer Fire Department reports ice on Swan Lake is 7-9 inches deep and safe for skating. However, officials warn skaters to avoid the end of the lake near Lakeside Grocery, since the ice is thinner there.
