Nancy Kay Hoffman, a former Sitka resident, passed away on Sept. 19, 2013, in Jacksonville, Fla. She was 65.
She was born in Everett, Wash., on April 9, 1948, the sixth child of Joseph and Irene Ryder.
The family moved to Alaska in 1952, first to Juneau for two years and then to Fairbanks in 1954, where she attended Denali grade school.
In 1963 her father found a job in Ketchikan and the family moved there. That is where she met the boy who was to become her future husband, Rick Hoffman. Nancy returned to Fairbanks in 1965 where she gave birth to her daughter Renate. On Aug., 1, 1970, she married Rick Hoffman in Fairbanks and in 1971 added to their family with the birth of their son Gary.
In 1974 the Hoffmans moved to Usibelli, Alaska, and in 1976 they moved to Sitka.
In 2005 Rick retired and they became snowbirds, spending seven months in Sitka and five months in Florida, where their son and his family lived.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Rick Hoffman; daughter Renate Aragon of Wasilla; son Gary (Chandra) Hoffman of Jacksonville, Fla., in-laws Doyle and Betty Hoffman of Vancouver, Wash.; grandchildren Zane, Kaylee and Samantha Hoffman of Jacksonville, and Shane Aragon, Wasilla; sisters Patti Runnion, Jo Small (Dennis) of North Pole, Jackie Scott (Tom) of Ketchikan, and Janie Vaughan (George) of Mt. Vernon, Wash.; brother-in-law Larry (Judy) Hoffman of Vancouver; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Per her request there will be no services. She will be cremated and buried in Fairbanks, in the spring.
