Jon Lee Parrish

Services are pending for Jon Lee Parrish, a former longtime resident who died April 20 in Santa Rosa, Laguna, the Philippines.
Jon was born May 24, 1950, in Salem, Ore., the son of Jack and Virginia (Johnson) Parrish.

The family moved to Sitka in the early 1960s. He returned to Oregon to graduate from high school and attend the University of Oregon. He later received his bachelor of science degree in forest resources from the  University of Washington.
He was a member of the Alaska National Guard.
Jon worked at Alaska Lumber and Pulp, Sitka Sound Seafoods and Hames Corporation.
He was a member of the Sitka Sportsman’s Association.
The oldest of the five Parrish children, Jon was both playful and kind to his younger siblings.

He loved Austin Mini Cooper cars and motorcycles, and was an accomplished marathon runner – he competed in the Seattle Marathon, among others.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine Parrish of Santa Rosa, Philippines; daughter Kayle Hammer of Seattle; sister Kelli Jo Thrush of Ketchikan; and brothers Rory Parrish of Juneau,  and Patrick Parrish and Wade Parrish, both of Sitka.

Thanks to the generosity and expertise of the the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska broadband department, Tidal Network ; Christopher Cropley, director of Tidal Network; and Luke Johnson, Tidal Network technician, SitkaSentinel.com is again being updated. Tidal Network has been working tirelessly to install Starlink satellite equipment for city and other critical institutions, including the Sentinel, following the sudden breakage of GCI's fiberoptic cable on August 29, which left most of Sitka without internet or phone connections. CCTHITA's public-spirited response to the emergency is inspiring.
