Charlotte Winnie

Longtime Sitka resident Charlotte Jane Winnie died on May 10, 2014, losing her battle to cervical cancer at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.Y. She was 56.
She was born March 2, 1958, in Baltimore, Md. She graduated from high school in Baltimore and later moved to Anacortes, Wash.
In 1986 Charlotte came to Sitka, where she worked at Sitka Sound Seafoods and Seafood Producers Co-op; as a dorm supervisor at Mt. Edgecumbe High School; and as a Technician II at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game – jobs she enjoyed.
Her smile was as contagious as her love for fishing out on the ocean. Other favorite activities were hiking and gardening.
Charlotte is survived by her daughter Leah Mann, of 111 Sheraton Drive, Rochester, NY 14616; and close friend Daniel Newman.
She also leaves behind dozens of friends and was an adopted mother to many.
