A memorial service for Gaylord Carson Olson will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at the United Methodist Church, 303 Kimsham St.
Dug Jensen will officiate. A reception will follow the service, also at the church.
Mr. Olson, 62, died July 23, of lung cancer.
He was born Feb. 16, 1952, in Red Bluff, California. He grew up in California, and lived for many years in Lancaster, California.
He was a construction contractor.
He moved to Ketchikan in 1990, and lived in Fairbanks and Juneau before coming to Sitka, where he spent his last years. Sitka was his favorite place, his family said.
He enjoyed cooking, the outdoors, talking, traveling, watching movies, music, and spreading the word of God.
He was a Christian, and in Sitka attended Calvary Chapel.
He is survived by his sister, Dawn Olson of California; wife, Ann Olson of Sitka; son Travis of Ketchikan; daughters Alysia, Amanda and Aimee, all of California; and grandchildren Ryan of Ketchikan and Dylan, Mila and Jolene, all of California.
“Thank you to his wife Ann for being at his side,” his children said. “A big thank you to his pastor, Dug, and his wife Sue, for providing endless support and love to our family.”
