Mrs. Sumauang, 93, died Nov. 1 at Sitka Community Hospital.

She was born Feb. 22, 1921, in Sta. Ignacia, Tarlac Philippines, the seventh of 11 children of Julia and Honoria Asencio Sumauang.

She married Enerio N. Sumauang on Nov. 18, 1962, and moved to Sitka in 1967.  After her husband’s health began to fail, they returned to the Philippines in 1976. He died Nov. 29, 1979, and she returned to Sitka in 1993 to be with her sister and her son and his family. She was residing at the Pioneers Home at the time of her death.

She was a gentle, kind and caring woman, and loved spending time with her grandchildren and other family members.

She liked gardening, knitting and cooking. She picked berries, dug for clams, and loved fishing off the docks.

She will be greatly missed, her family said.
