A memorial service for Harold James Schaefer will be held 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, at the Swan Lake Senior Center.
Harold died of natural causes last week in Anchorage. He was 60.
He was born Sept. 24, 1954, in Sitka, the son of Eunice Killigivuk and Jack Wesley Schaefer. He lived most of his life here with his Sitka family, Thomas and Katherine Anderson. He attended the Seventh-Day Adventist School and Sitka High School.
He worked on the North Slope for many years, before moving to Anchorage 10 years ago to be closer to his medical care, living out his life surrounded by friends.
Harold had a kind and caring soul, and enjoyed spending time with and helping his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eunice Killigivuk and Jack Wesley Schaefer; grandparents Harold and Anna Schaefer and Jimmy and Sally Killigivuk; and uncles Eugene and Edgar Killigivuk.
Survivors include his stepmother, Katherine Anderson of Sitka; brothers Ernest Schaefer of Point Hope, Jack Schaefer (and children Eunice and Wendell) of Point Hope, Francis and wife Mariah (and children Easter, Bessie, Edgar, Jacob, Edward, Frage, Soloman, Tina, Shawn, Clark and Kristy) of Palmer, Thomas Anderson and his wife Norma of Sitka; and sisters Doris Main and family of Sitka, Kimberly and Greg Peacocke and family of Sitka, and Diana Lynn Arnold and James Parks of Juneau (and children Sallyjean, Andre, Lolajean, Raymond, Delilah and William).
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the SEARHC Healing Hand Foundation Charitable Funds.
