Lane Quintin

Lane B. Quintin, 49, died suddenly in Yakima, Wash., on Nov. 13, 2014, after a brief illness.

A celebration of life is scheduled 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Elks Lodge. Those attending are invited to take a covered dish and memories to share.

Lane was born in Oakland, Calif., on Sept. 13, 1965, at the Oak Knoll Naval Hospital to Jean Frances and Bruce Edward Quintin.

He graduated from Sitka High School in 1983, and from J.M Perry Technical Institute in Yakima, Wash., in 1985, as an ASC certified auto mechanic.

He spent most of his adult life in Sitka, where he worked briefly at the Alaska Pulp Co. mill, then for 11 years for the City and Borough of Sitka as a mechanic.

Lane was a beloved son, brother, uncle, a dog lover, a skilled mechanic, avid outdoorsman, and a friend to many who live in Sitka.  Above all, he was devoted to his family and friends and always went out of his way to support those who needed help.

He is survived by his mother, Jean Frances Myer of Sitka; his two brothers, Bernie Quintin of Seattle, Wash., and Eric Quintin (Debbie),of Durham, N.C.; and five nieces and nephews, Ricky Lowry deployed to Afghanistan, Alex Quintin of Portland, Ore., James Quintin of Wasilla, and Ayden Quintin and Julianne Quintin both of Durham, N.C.

Thanks to the generosity and expertise of the the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska broadband department, Tidal Network ; Christopher Cropley, director of Tidal Network; and Luke Johnson, Tidal Network technician, SitkaSentinel.com is again being updated. Tidal Network has been working tirelessly to install Starlink satellite equipment for city and other critical institutions, including the Sentinel, following the sudden breakage of GCI's fiberoptic cable on August 29, which left most of Sitka without internet or phone connections. CCTHITA's public-spirited response to the emergency is inspiring.
