Leona Josephine (Hill) Skultka

Services for Leona Josephine (Hill) Skultka, a lifelong Sitkan, will be 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 6, at Sheet’ka Kwaan Naa Kahidi, 200 Katlian Street.

A luncheon will follow. Donations will be welcome.

A viewing for family and friends was 1 to 3 p.m. today at Prewitt’s Funeral Home.

Leona died Feb. 25, at SEARHC-Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital. She was 59.

She was born May 19,1955, in Sitka, the daughter of Evelyn Gertrude (Hamilton) and William Hill Jr. She attended Sitka schools, and was a commercial fisherwoman. She also worked on the Alaska pipeline.

She and Charlie Skultka were married June 16, 1985, at Sitka Tribe of Alaska.

Leona loved her husband, her children and grandchildren, and was a mother not only to her children and grandchildren but to nieces, nephews and many others who loved her as a mother.

Among her favorite pastimes was spending time on the boat fishing.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn and William Hill Jr.; sisters Wilma Hill-Leonard and Nancy Didrickson; brother William Hill III; and grandparents Edward and Leona Hamilton.

She is survived by her husband, Charles G. Skultka Sr.; children Charlie (Tane), Kendra (Chris), David (Samantha) and Amanda (Kristal); grandchildren Justin, Charline, Alissa, Mia, Sarah, Kaetlyn, Kaylee, Kaeden, David Jr. and Klaudia; brothers Edward Hill and Eric Hill; sister Anna Edenshaw (Steve); aunts Jessie Carlson and Nancy (Jake) Phillips; sister-in-law Sandy (Rodger) Johnston; and brothers-in-law Francis Carle and family, and Peter Burr.

Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers are Steve and Les Hamilton, Jim and John Phillips, Loren and Sharlene Sanderson, Gordon and Linda Guthrie, Tony and Jody Peele, Francis Carle, Calvin Carlson, Steve and Jerimiah Dilts, Bob and Becky Hall, John and Marsha Morris, Nancy and Jake Phillips, Tina Mackie, Rebecca Frank, Teresa Germain and Jessie Carlson.

Also, Rhonda Peratrovich, Lena Whitifield, Mary Morris, Doreen Washington, Crystal Kristovich, Heather Bremner, Tane Skultka, Lovi Hattan, Alva Peratrovich, Rhonda Stiles, Glenda Enloe and Grave Larson.

The Youth Totem Pole Project blessing of the log ceremony will be held at Sitka National Historical Park visitor center. Pacific High youths and carver Tommy Joseph will be introduced and the story and design of the totem pole project will be presented.

Sitka Volunteer Fire Department reports ice on Swan Lake is 7-9 inches deep and safe for skating. However, officials warn skaters to avoid the end of the lake near Lakeside Grocery, since the ice is thinner there.
