Robert Donald Alexander

Services for Robert Donald Alexander Jr. have been  scheduled Monday, April 13, at the Sitka Elks Lodge, 412 Sawmill Creek Blvd.

A Masonic service will be at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow at 12:30 p.m. Interment will be 1 p.m. at Sitka National Cemetery.

Don passed away April 6, 2015, at Swedish Hospital in Seattle at age 73.

He was born Oct. 7, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up there.

He proudly served five years in the United States Air Force, and was stationed in Germany. Following his service, he worked as a property manager, heavy equipment operator and correctional officer.

He received a bachelor degree from the University of Arizona in 1994.

After moving to Sitka from Juneau, in 1998, he  managed Sitka Mini-Storage.

Don loved Sitka always saying, “There is no place I’d rather be.”

He was very active in the Sitka community. He served on the City Planning Commission for nine years, the last five as chairman; and the Sitka Counseling board for 10 years, with the last several years as the chairman.

In the early years in Sitka, Don was active in the Alaska Native Brotherhood, Camp 1.

In addition to his community service, Don became a member of the Mount Verstovia Lodge No. 18 in June 2002. V.W. Robert Donald Alexander was Master of the Lodge in 2007 and 2011. He was a 32nd Degree member of the Scottish Rite, a member of the International Order of Shrine and a Knight of the Royal Order of Scotland.

He also served the Grand Lodge of Alaska Masons as a district deputy for Southeast Alaska. Don loved Masonry and his Masonic family.

Don is survived by his wife of 31 years, Patricia Roberts Alexander; daughters Pamela Anna Alexander (Matt Pennington) of Mesa, Ariz., Paula LaJoie (Dave) of Tucson, Ariz.,  and Julie Alexander (Lisa) of Banning, Calif.; and son Robert Daniel Alexander (Helen) of Phoenix, Ariz.

He also is survived by two sisters,  Evelyn Patte of Avondale, Ariz., and Susan Alexander of Sacramento, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Don loved his family and was well loved by them.
