Everett “Ed” Ensley Soderberg

 

Former Sitkan Everett “Ed” Ensley Soderberg died May 13, 1915, in Ferndale, Wash. He was 87.

He was born July 18, 1927, in Portland, Ore., the first of three children of Edward and Margaret Soderberg.

After graduating from Benson High School, Ed served his country in the United States Navy. After his service he attended Oregon State University,  earning a bachelor of science degree in forestry.

He married Betty Sorensen in 1952. 

While working as a machinist at Bingham Willamette, Ed attended Portland State University, where he earned a degree in chemical engineering.

Ed and Betty later divorced, and he moved to Sitka,  where he began his career as a chemist at Alaska Lumber and Pulp Co.

He had a lifelong passion for mountain climbing, backpacking, skiing, hiking, and canoeing.

In 1976, he married Isabelle Ann Lee, and the two retired to Ferndale, Wash., in 1988.

Ed and Isabelle enjoyed travel and times spent with family and friends. Isabelle passed away in 2000.

 

He is survived by his sisters, Elaine Kahler and Kathie Bilotti; children Karen Kelleher, Kristi Williams, Ed Soderberg, Bruce Soderberg, Darlene Beam, Harry Lee, Doreen Garrity, Steven Lee, Cynthia Lee, Lloyd Lee, Wendy Johnson, and Kevin Lee; 38 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and friend Dorothy.
