Dear Editor: I will be voting for Katie Riley for Assembly. As we heard at the State of Sitka’s Economy presentation just last week, the lack of affordable housing is the largest single reason why young people are leaving Sitka. Five years of service on the Planning Commission have helped Katie understand the challenges of providing affordable housing in Sitka. She has already demonstrated her commitment to addressing our housing crisis, and I am confident that she will continue to do so as an Assembly member.
In addition to her track record on housing, Katie has real experience in Sitka governance. She understands how our small town system operates and how to implement change within it. Instead of complaining about problems, she does the hard work required to solve them. Her intelligence, calm demeanor, and persistence have served us all well.
Our community canʼt grow and thrive if it is unaffordable for young people. I canʼt think of anyone better to address this challenge than Katie.
