Little League Tourney
Dear Editor: This July, Sitka Little League hosted the State Tournament for the Juniors Division (ages 13-14) Little League at beautiful Moller Field. Our team, from Abbott-O-Rabbit Little League in Anchorage, participated and we’d like to express our gratitude to Sitka Little League, to the Sitka Fine Arts Camp, and to your fine community. Sitka Little League allowed us to practice at the Moller Field facilities when we requested and the folks at the Fine Arts Camp put 15 of us up at very little cost, which enabled more families to fly down and made the team’s further travels more affordable.
The Fine Arts Camp is an excellent facility for which your entire community should be proud. You have a fine and beautiful city, a city that loves baseball, and one that we hope to return to. Keep up the great work!
The Abbott-O-Rabbit
Juniors Baseball Team, Anchorage

Golf Tourney Success
Dear Editor: The 5th Annual Cancer and Diabetes Awareness Fundraiser was a success!
On behalf of the Sitka Women’s Golf League/Club, Sitka Community Hospital and Sitka Cancer Survivors Society, Maybelle Filler and the planning group would like to extend a hearty and heartfelt thank you to all those volunteers, businesses, sponsors and GOLFERS that came together Sunday, Aug. 18, to make our 5th Annual Cancer and Diabetes Awareness Golf Tourney and Silent Auction a huge success, raising over $3,000. Dedicated golfers, auction buyers, lunch-eaters and balloon launchers came out in what turned out to be beautiful weather, to raise money for the Sitka Cancer Survivors Society and the Sitka Community Hospital Outpatient Diabetes Program showing that truly Sitkans get on board when it comes to raising money to help those in need. This event takes place in August on a yearly basis.
Thank you to the Sea Mountain golf course tournament committee, Chef Larry and the rest of the crew at Sea Mountain Golf Course for all their hard work and dedication.
Thank you to our hole sponsors; Sitka CHARR, ALPS Federal Credit Union, Foreign Automotive, Harry Race and Photo and White’s Pharmacy, Hames Corporation, S&S General Contractors, Sitka Bottling Company, Sitka Vision Clinic, Troy’s Excavation and Venneberg Insurance Inc.
Even though no one won the $25,000 hole-in-one, we’d like to thank our sponsor for that hole, ACS Alaska. Also, thank you to the rest of our sponsors who provided items for the silent auction, raffle and golf hole prizes: AC Lakeside, Abby’s Reflection, Arrowhead Press/Sitka Sentinel, Art Glass by Kiki, Aurora Business Supplies, Ben Franklin Crafts, Brenner’s Fine Clothing and Gifts, Goldsmith Gallery, H. Pitts Enterprises, Home Plus, Horan and Company, Dan and Betty Keck, Jan and Robert Love, KCAW, KIFW, Mountain Miss Gear and Gifts, Work and Rugged Gear Store, Murray Pacific Supply Corp., Northern Sales, North Star TV, Perfect 10, Petro Marine, Rain Country, Random House-Russian American Company, Raven’s Peak, Robertson’s Custom Framing, Sea Dreams by DJ Robidou, Sea Mountain Golf Course and Restaurant, Sitka Bazaar, Sitka Flowers and Chocolate Moose, Sitka True Value, Spenard Builders Supply, Ed and Alice Barcelona, and Maybelle and Stan Filler. And, finally, a very special thank you to our countless volunteers who came and helped out before, during and after the event (setting up, prepping, cleaning up, monitoring holes, selling balloons, grilling food, providing media and generally pitching in wherever needed). We appreciate you.
    See you next August!
