Thank You, Sitka
Dear Editor: The Sitka Homeless Coalition would like to thank everyone who helped to make our annual meeting a huge success.
The food was delicious. Chef Renee Trafton from the BEAK restaurant donated her time, considerable talent, and food to make a wonderful meal. Seafood Producer’s Cooperative donated the halibut and the Sitka Tribe of Alaska – Social Service department rented the beautiful Sheet’ká Ḵwáan Naa Kahídi. Volunteers from Outer Coast, SAIL and JVC washed a mountain of dishes and helped in a variety of ways.
Wonderful live music was provided by Jeannie Jay and Fun Tones. Chuck Miller did a moving opening and dozens of local people and businesses donated to the silent auction which had 39 items and all of them sold. The total donated retail value of the donations was $5,533.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended, made big bids, and showed your support for our non-profit that is working at ending homelessness. Almost $5,000 was raised at the event plus another $5,000 in checks from the Sitka Rotary Club, Sitka Moose Lodge, and the Sitka Food Co-op.
Thank you, Salamat and Gunalchéesh,
Sitka Homeless Coalition
Calling Artists
Dear Editor: This coming spring, beginning in late March, 2023, the Sitka Public Library will be celebrating its 100th year of existence. Sitkans will be invited to help celebrate through a series of enjoyable events. As part of the festivities, the library will host a monthlong art exhibit featuring Sitka artists during April, 2023. The theme will be: ‘‘The Library: A Place of Stories.’’
Sitka artists of all ages are invited to submit either two-dimensional or three-dimensional works of art for the exhibit. The show will be curated, as space and library policies will determine which works may be accepted. Also, works will display the artists’ name, but may not be for sale during the show.
We are looking forward to accepting submissions! Deadline for accepting works will be March 25, 2023. Please contact Sandra Fontaine if you have other questions, (907) 623-0444.
Sandra Fontaine, Sitka
