Deanna Kay Moore

Dear Editor: Deanna Kay Moore is my sister. Anyone who has met Deanna can honestly say this, as her love and grace knew no bounds. Her smile, warmth, generosity, and compassion did not differentiate.

I have had the unique experience and the great fortune to meet many of you recently and hear your stories. I am blessed and honored to see her and feel her through your lens. It struck me this last Saturday afternoon while listening to what Deanna meant to you that I have seen YOU ALL in her. She made Sitka her home long ago. You all have contributed to the beautiful, vibrant, loving graceful spirit that is Deanna Kay Moore, our sister. I thank you with all that I am for sharing Deanna with me.

With a heart full of gratitude,

Adrianne Lee Moore

Energy Priorities

Dear Editor: The public is invited to attend a presentation on Monday, Dec. 12, 5:30-7 p.m., at Centennial Hall, by two scientists from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory  reporting on consultation services and technical assistance for five energy priorities awarded to the CBS, following the city’s 2021 detailed and forward-looking application to NREL’s Energy Transitions Initiative Partnership Program.

The newly formed Sustainability Commission is holding a work session for this purpose, and it will be our first occasion to hear the NREL’s conclusions and recommendations. The 30-minute presentation will be followed by questions from the commission, then questions from the public and end with a 30-minute public brainstorming opportunity to formulate energy directions to pursue.

In the last year, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act and the Inflation Reduction Act have given unprecedented opportunities for grants to nonprofits and municipalities, as well as tax credits, and rebates to individuals to catalyze the energy transition. With the combined windfall of expert technical assistance and outside funding support and resources newly available to us, we urge interested Sitkans to join in on Monday’s exceptional and timely event to educate ourselves and contribute our ideas to a long term and robust municipal energy plan.

The NREL scientists will also present their conclusions to the Assembly at Tuesday’s regular session. This presentation will necessarily be shorter and offer less opportunity for public exchange. The federal report will be available in the Assembly packet for the meeting.
