Retirement

Dear Editor: After 30 years working at First National and another 25 years at Davis Realty, I have decided it is time to retire and look for another job. Just kidding. While I am ready to retire, I do so knowing I’m going to miss working with all the many friends and Sitkans that I have assisted in buying or selling homes or businesses or islands. I have probably financed hundreds of homes and helped more Sitkans buy or sell than I can count.

I love working with people and helping them get the end results they are looking for.

Alan and I look forward to spending time together, boating, and beachcombing at West Chichagof, traveling and just kicking back.

Many thanks to all my clients, I will miss you.

Nancy Blatchley Davis, Sitka

Plumbing Apprentices

Dear Editor: Recently, it was proposed that the number of apprentices a journeyman should train at once be increased to TEN and that plumbing and electrical apprentices should no longer be required to register under an accredited program.

The journeyman will not be able to get his own work done in trying to train 10 apprentices, and the apprentices, not being involved in a program, may be set to menial tasks such as sweeping the floor and may finish their required training hours not able to perform as journeyman and not able to pass the testing.

Obviously, the people who proposed these changes haven’t had experiences in the plumbing or electrical trades. These changes will endanger the construction trades in Alaska as well as the people who might be affected by dangerous errors the poorly trained apprentices would make, Construction Codes must be respected and followed.
