Thank You

Dear Editor: This year’s Only Fools Run at Midnight lit up the night sky with excited participants, cheerful volunteers and some glowing costumes.

This wonderfully bright event was organized this year by Southeast Alaska Independent Living and Raven Radio, supported by local businesses and many worthy volunteers.

First off we would like to thank all the sponsors who stepped up again this year to support this lively fundraiser:  First Bank, Sitka Bottling Company, Russell’s, Venneberg Insurance, Kingfisher Charters, Foreign Automotive, AC Lakeside and Yellow Jersey Cycle Shop.

This event would not have been possible without the support of Chief Dave Miller, the Fire Hall crew and EMTs, thank you!  Also, a big thanks to Ashia Lane and Old Harbor Books, the Sitka High soccer team, Retha Winger’s Girl Scout troop, Steve Warren and all the others that marked the course and supported this event.

Thank you to all the late-night runners, walkers and those on wheels that participated this year.  The amazing display of costumes was fun to watch with best costume going to the Coast Guard helicopter and best caterpillar was taken by the Sheldon Jackson Pollack group.

We hope to see you at Only Fools Run at Midnight next summer!

Sincerely,

Raven Radio and SAIL

Thank You

Dear Editor: Raven Radio’s Annual Solstice Cruise fundraiser was a great time on the water in the sun last Friday night.  We would like to sincerely thank Kari and Jason, Littlefield and Fabian for the smooth tunes,  The Pub for the delicious food and Old Harbor Books for assistance selling our tickets again this year.

We extend our gratitude to Allen Marine Tours, whose generous donation allows the proceeds from the cruise to be used to support programming, equipment and volunteer training at Raven Radio.  And to the Allen Marine crew for their excellent service and cheer.

Finally, thank you to everyone who attended this year’s cruise.  We look forward to cruising with you again next summer!

Sincerely,

Raven Radio board and staff

    Assembly Thanks

Dear Editor: I am writing to offer my sincere, heartfelt thanks to every member of the Sitka Assembly for your service to our community during this difficult time.

Reduced oil revenues mean we must either make painful cuts in the budget or tax ourselves to pay for schools, roads, police, fire, and the whole array of city services.  This is the daunting task that has fallen on the shoulders of our assembly.

Anyone who follows the meetings knows that assembly member are dedicating very long hours to their work and they’re digging deep for creative, wise, and thoughtful decisions.

We’re incredibly lucky to have this group of conscientious and committed people who are laboring entirely as volunteers on our behalf.  Whether or not we agree with a given decision, I believe it’s essential that we show them our appreciation, our gratitude, and our absolute respect.

This is the time to pull together, to show support, and above all to thank our assembly members in every way possible, every time there’s a chance.  I want to say to our assembly, the ways that you have taken on this demanding task has made me proud, yet again, to live in Sitka.

Sincerely

Richard K. Nelson
