FOSCA Support
Dear Editor: On behalf of the Friends of Sitka Circus Arts nonprofit, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the following organizations for their grants, donations, and logistical support.
Their generous contributions were instrumental in making the recent performance of ‘‘Under The Big Top’’ a great success, in helping with funding for scholarships and equipment, and in supporting FOSCA’s mission: Promoting wellness, creativity, exploration within safe spaces, and broadening the accessibility to, and involvement in, the circus arts.
We would like to thank the following: U.S. Coast Guard Spouses’ and Women’s Association of Sitka; Harry Race Photo and Pharmacy; Sitka Chamber of Commerce; Sitka Alaska Permanent Charitable Trust; Sitka School District; and the Sitka Woman’s Club.
Their contributions are critical in our continued efforts to make a positive impact in the lives of Sitkans.
We would also like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all the volunteers who worked tirelessly and donated their time and talents to make ‘‘Under The Big Top’’ a success. Their dedication, hard work, and creativity are truly inspiring and we could not have done it without them. The selfless kindness, creativity, and spirit of collaboration exemplify the amazing community of Sitka.
Finally, we would like to thank the community at large for your support. Your attendance, donations, words of encouragement, and enthusiastic applause mean the world to us and the performers.
Thank you, again, to everyone who supported us in producing ‘‘Under the Big Top,’’ and who help cirque within Sitka thrive. We look forward to continuing to work with all of you!

Cruise Control
Dear Editor: Here is an apt tweet the organization Seattle Cruise Control made recently. It applies in many (most? all?) places worldwide where mass cruise tourism exists, including in Sitka.
“Being a community tied to the cruise industry is a bit like being in an abusive relationship.
– Their needs are always more important than yours.
– There is a major imbalance of power.
– They gaslight you if you bring up a problem.
–They isolate you from other opportunities.”
