Drinking Water Plant

Dear Editor: Why is the City of Sitka going to spend $18 million on an inadequate drinking water filter plant, just so they can keep a USEPA waiver to NOT have a water filter plant?

Why not build an adequate filter plant, and forget about this waiver?

Big Rig Fundraiser

Dear Editor: 3 to 5 Preschool recently hosted our 7th Annual Big Rig Fundraiser, and we wanted to say how much we love and appreciate this community for the support we saw at the event! To those of you who came out with your families, ran in the fun run or 5k, ate food, climbed on some rigs – thank you for supporting 3 to 5 Preschool and our students.

To all the amazing people who brought something to show at the event, we obviously could not have done this without you and your awesome rigs and specialty vehicles – or we would have to rename our fundraiser. It is so special for everyone to get to climb aboard so many different things all in one day. You all show up every year to this event with smiles on your faces regardless of the weather (which just happened to be amazing this year-but isn’t every year), and we want to thank you a thousand times over.

To the countless volunteers who came to help work the event – thank you for giving your time to be there for us and to keep people at the fundraiser happy and safe. Thank you to the parents of the preschool who volunteered their time, and donated items for the event. Thank you to the MEHS National Honor Society students, foreign exchange students Tony, Mohan and Niseen, and also Angie, an AmeriCorps volunteer – we appreciate all the help you gave at our fundraiser.

Also, thanks to Jessie who came and sold snow cones and cotton candy. Thank you to the Sitka Fire Department for donating the raffle drawing for a ride on the SFD’s ladder truck. Thank you to Jared at Grind Fitness for donating a class as our 5k raffle prize. Also, thank you to Cyndi at the Sitka Sentinel for helping us get information out about our event.

And of course, we couldn’t forget our amazing sponsors, many of which have supported this event every single year – we truly thank you. This year our sponsors were Absolute Tree Care, AC Lakeside, Allen Marine Tours, Arrowhead Transfer, Birch Equipment, GCI, Hardrock Construction, K&E, MCG Constructors, Prewitt Enterprises, and Tisher Trucking. Every one of you helped to make this event possible, and in doing so helped to support the quality future of the children in our preschool program. Thank you so much!
