Congratulations
Dear Editor: At the recent U.S. Marine Corps’ 245th birthday celebration on Nov. 10. Sam Painter was re-elected to the position as the league’s Commandant, Jack Greenlaugh was elected as the new Marine Corps League adjutant. Congratulations are in order for the elected officers of the Marine Corps League of Sitka.
The Marine Corps League of Sitka welcomes all USMC veterans and current members to any of our celebratory and philanthropic activities, as we support our new officers’ efforts. The next one coming up is the nationally recognized Christmas Toys for Tots drive in our local community.

Operation Christmas
Dear Editor: As we are nearing Christmas, we want to express our warm appreciation to those folks and businesses that donated to the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes that we put together each year in Sitka. Packed for needy children throughout the world, these boxes get filled with toys, hygiene items, school supplies, and small clothing items, and introduce them to the love of Christ and our love and concern for their well-being.
This year many individual Sitkans from several churches plus several businesses donated items which allowed us to pack 132 shoeboxes! In addition to all the folks who packed boxes on their own, we want to thank these generous donors: Sea Mart, Sitka True Value, Theresa Helem, Harry Race Pharmacy, Laurie Johnson, Alaska Computer Center, and Sitka Bulk Goods. Plus, as they do every year, AML transported the boxes to Juneau – the first stop en route to Los Angeles for worldwide distribution.
Even though we have sent our boxes, you can still pack a box online and find out more information by going to SamaritansPurse.org, clicking on the Operation Christmas Child banner at the top, then Build a Shoebox Online. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has delivered gift-filled shoeboxes to over 168 million children in more than 100 countries.
Thank you to all!
