‘Cruise Boom’ Preview
Dear Editor: We want to thank everyone who attended the ‘‘Cruise Boom’’ preview screening on Nov. 20. Thanks to the Coliseum Theater and the Sitka Film Society for supporting the event and the Sitka Sentinel, Sitka Soup and KCAW Raven Radio for getting the word out on our documentary in the works. We appreciate the enthusiasm and the great conversation after the screening.
We hope that the film encourages more dialogue about what makes our community a great place to live, thrive and support everyone who lives here. We also want to encourage people to attend the Assembly and Planning Commission meetings to help shape what’s ahead. Finally, we want to thank everyone in the community who has graciously been involved in the making of the documentary.
If you want to know more about ‘‘Cruise Boom’’ and possibly donate to support us while we finish the film go to cruiseboomfilm.com.
Thank you,

Kettle Kick-Off
Dear Editor: Wow, wow, wow! You did it again, family! Thank you for your generosity during the Salvation Army’s Food Drive and Kettle Kick-off! Major John set some very high goals for us, and the kettle goal of $15,000 was almost raised; we raised $13,000.
This is crazy good! The goal for poundage of food was 13,000 pounds, and we raised 11,000 pounds of food which will help feed folks and families in need this Thanksgiving and Christmas and beyond. Sitka is an amazingly giving community, and this is truly appreciated.
A huge shout out goes to AC Lakeside, Sea Mart, LFS Marine Supplies, Always Clean and Orion Sporting Goods for being the food drive and kettle kick-off sponsors! Thank you, thank you, thank you, and we are so thankful for KIFW and their radio hosts and team for the live feeds during the drive at both AC Lakeside and Sea Mart!
Yay, yay, yay! Sitka is the best, and we thank God for the caring concern this town shows for all of its citizens.
Majors John and Sabrina Tumey,
Sitka Salvation Army
Grateful
Dear Editor: Every morning I wake up grateful for this community of Sitka, my new home since January. I am grateful for friendly neighbors and people who offer to lend a hand without being asked. I am grateful that I can walk to any part of the city, including the airport.
I am thankful for cool temperatures, plenty of rain, and clean water. I am grateful for the multitude of trails, and for all the beauty of nature: eagle, raven, bear, salmon, mountain, forest, muskeg, river and ocean. I am thankful for the Native peoples, and for the care they have taken to preserve their rich culture and this land. I am thankful for all those who have made Sitka as beautiful as it is, and for all those who continue to work to make it better.
Chip Camden, Sitka
