SEARHC Gets
Commision’s
Accreditation
SEARHC has once again earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for accreditation by demonstrating compliance with the Joint Commission’s national standards for health care quality and safety in ambulatory care organizations.
SEARHC underwent a rigorous unannounced on-site survey in September. A team of experts evaluated for compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of patients, including infection prevention and control, leadership and medication management at Sitka, Juneau, Haines, and Klawock.
“This accreditation validates the great work we’re doing and that our providers and entire staff are meeting the highest standard of excellence within the healthcare community, not only at Mt. Edgcumbe Hospital and Ethel Lund Medical Center, but at all of our clinics, including Behavioral Health. As we continue to pursue excellence in our patient care, the guidance that the Joint Commission surveyors provided has been and will continue to be extremely helpful in this journey,” said SEARHC CEO Charles Clement.

Unitarians Meet
To Discuss Advent
Rich McClear will lead a discussion on Advent at the Unitarian Fellowship meeting Dec. 1.
Dec. 1 is the first Sunday in Advent, the beginning of the Christian Liturgical Year.
‘‘It is a season filled with parties and joy for people in the West, but it was not always that way,’’ McClear said. ‘‘During the first 1,000 years of the common era it was a period of fasting and penance. It still is in the Orthodox world. How did the change happen? Why do we party and not fast? There are some calls to turn back toward fasting and penance in reaction to the excesses of Black Friday and the whole holiday overload.’’
Before and after the presentation a slide show of Advent markets will be shown. McClear took the pictures while he lived in Europe.’
Fellowship begins at 10:30 a.m., with the program beginning at 10:45 a.m. Children’s religious education is provided. Soup and bread follows the program at noon. The Fellowship Hall is located at 408 Marine Street, with parking behind off Spruce Street.
