FASD Support
    Group to Meet
    The FASD Community Support Group will meet 6 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Pioneers Home Manager’s House.
    A short video, “A Child for Life,” will be shown. An opportunity to network with others is planned.
    Everyone interested in the effects of fetal alcohol on friends and family members or those in the community are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be served.

    For Wearable Arts
    The Greater Sitka Arts Council reminds Wearable Art artists that the registration time ends Feb. 15.

    Tickets on Sale
    For Runway Show
    The Greater Sitka Arts Council announce tickets for the 6th Annual Wearable Art Runway Show and Extravaganza will be on sale Feb. 4 at Old Harbor Books.
    Two shows are set on March 1 – at both 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Those with questions can call Jeff 747-4821.





    Iconography Class
    Slated for Feb. 7
    The Greater Sitka Arts Council will host a free public presentation on Orthodox iconography at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 at St. Michael’s Cathedral. All are welcome.
    Charles Rohrbacher, an Alaskan iconographer with three decades of icon “writing” experience, will be the presenter. Following the presentation Deacon Charles will answer questions and also show his own work.




    Partner Dance
    Classes on Tap
    The Sitka Fine Arts Camp will present weekly partner dance classes 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays and adult modern dance classes 7-8:30 p.m. Mondays with Franni Donohoe.
    Classes are offered throughout February. For more details call the Fine Arts Camp at 747-3085, or stop by  the office in the Rasmuson building on the SJ Campus.

    Chamber to Meet
    Steve Reifenstuhl, general manager of Northern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association, will address the Chamber of Commerce noon Wednesday at Westmark Sitka.
     His presentation will be on NSRAA and commercial fishermen.
    Chamber luncheons are open to the public. For more information, call the Sitka Chamber office at 747-8604.

 

Thanks to the generosity and expertise of the the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska broadband department, Tidal Network ; Christopher Cropley, director of Tidal Network; and Luke Johnson, Tidal Network technician, SitkaSentinel.com is again being updated. Tidal Network has been working tirelessly to install Starlink satellite equipment for city and other critical institutions, including the Sentinel, following the sudden breakage of GCI's fiberoptic cable on August 29, which left most of Sitka without internet or phone connections. CCTHITA's public-spirited response to the emergency is inspiring.
