Contractors have issued an advisory about Halibut Point Road lane closures during paving, beginning at 6 p.m. today, weather permitting.
“Once the paver has laid down the new roadway, it cannot be driven on for a minimum of four hours,” said Mike Ashton, project superintendent for the contractors, ASRC McGraw Constructors.
The laying down of new asphalt will begin at Sea Mart (1867 Halibut Point Road) and continue toward the roundabout on the inbound lane. During that time, inbound traffic will be moved to the outbound lane, and outbound traffic will be rerouted to Lake Street and Edgecumbe Drive, and down Cascade Creek Road to HPR at Sea Mart.
Ashton asked residents who live on the water side (inbound lane) of HPR and need their cars to park elsewhere, but not on the roadway, during the paving job and the four-hour cooling period afterward.
He estimated the lane will be closed between 6 p.m. today through 8 a.m. Tuesday.
The outbound lane of the highway will be closed for paving Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, with work beginning 6 p.m. Tuesday. Ashton asked residents along that stretch of the outbound lane who need their vehicles between 6 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday to park their vehicles elsewhere, but not on the roadway.
“Thank you for your patience,” Ashton said in his announcement. “Hang in there – we are almost done with this section of the roadway.”
Ashton stressed that the paving work is dependent on good weather, and that the lane closure schedule can change if the paving is delayed by rain. The forecast calls for cloudy skies tonight, a chance of rain Tuesday, and rain for the rest of the week.
