SSMF Week

Preview Set

Music educator Susan Reed will host a free one-hour discussion at Stevenson Hall, 104 Jeff Davis Street, 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 16.

Reed will talk about the music and performers that will be featured in the third week of the festival. More information is at 747-6774.

 

 

Alaska Day Festival

Planners to Meet 

Coordinators for Sitka’s mid-October community Alaska Day Festival will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, at Centennial Hall and each following third Tuesday of the month.

To recognize its importance in community life, “Meet Me at Centennial” is this year’s theme chosen by the Alaska Day Committee.

Persons having comments about Festival activities or new volunteers are invited to attend the meetings or contact chairman Ted Allio at 747-5124 or schedule coordinator Elaine Strelow at 747-3469.

 

 

Silent Auction

Set this Week

SEARHC hospital will have a silent auction up for four days this week.

It will be held 8 a.m.-2 p.m. June 18 and 19 on the ground floor at Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital’s cafeteria, conference room A. It will then move to Moller Field and will be open 8 a.m.-2 p.m. June 19 and 20. The winners will be announced at 2 p.m. on June 20.

 

 

Lutherans Plan

‘Messy Church’

Sitka Lutheran Church will host ‘‘Messy Church’’ 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 17. This month’s theme is ‘‘Light of God.’’

Families and individuals are invited to enjoy a family-style supper time, a celebration worship, and an activity and craft. For more information call 747-3338.

At National Park

Sitka National Historical Park offers daily guided programs teaching visitors about the park’s natural and cultural resources.

The week’s activities include:

–Tuesday, 10 a.m. and noon Totem Walks.

–Wednesday, 9 a.m. Totem Walk, 10:30 a.m. Russian-American History Walking Tour, 10:30 a.m. Sea Otter Discovery Talk, and noon Totem Walk

–Thursday, 9 a.m. Battle Walk, 10 a.m. Totem Walk, 10:30 a.m. Russian-American History Walking Tour, noon  Totem Walk, 2:30 p.m. Sea Otter Discovery Talk.

–Friday, 10 a.m. Totem Walk and 1:30 p.m. Sea Otter Discovery Talk.

–Saturday, 10 a.m. Sea Otter Discovery Talk and 2 p.m. Totem Walk

The Russian-American History Walking Tour leaves from the Russian Bishop’s House. All other ranger-led tours meet at the Sitka NHP visitor center on Lincoln Street.

Storyteller Sam

At Public Library

Traditional Tlingit storyteller Bob Sam will perform at Kettleson Memorial Library 2 p.m. Sunday, June 21.

The public is invited to attend.

 

 

Thanks to the generosity and expertise of the the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska broadband department, Tidal Network ; Christopher Cropley, director of Tidal Network; and Luke Johnson, Tidal Network technician, SitkaSentinel.com is again being updated. Tidal Network has been working tirelessly to install Starlink satellite equipment for city and other critical institutions, including the Sentinel, following the sudden breakage of GCI's fiberoptic cable on August 29, which left most of Sitka without internet or phone connections. CCTHITA's public-spirited response to the emergency is inspiring.

The freshmen students initiation will be Friday at the school. Dress will be respectable. ... Suspension of three days will be enforced for any of the following violations: throwing of eggs; spraying of shaving cream; cutting of hair; and any pranks which could be harmful to the welfare of the students.
