Pioneers Home
Sets Art Show
Sitka Pioneers Home will have an art show 1:30-5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, All are invited to check out the artwork by residents, staff and local community members. The show will be held in the main lounge.
STA Health Panel
Meets Aug. 7
The Sitka Tribe of Alaska Health Committee will meet noon-1 p.m. Aug. 7 at the STA Social Services building, 110 American Street. Lunch will be provided.

Golf Tourney
Set for Sunday
The ‘‘Who’s Your Buddy? Who’s Your Pal?’’ 18-hole golf tournament will be 9 a.m. Aug. 9 at the Sea Mountain Golf Course.
It includes men’s and women’s divisions, two-man team and alternate shot. Cost is $150 a team which includes golf and a sack lunch.
The event is sponsored by the Sitka Seafood Festival and Sea Mountain Scholarship Fund.

Live Music Set
At Photo Event
Live music is planned 5:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday during the circa 1980s black-and-white fishing photo exhibit at Allen Hall on the SJ Campus.
Music will be provided by ChordPlay with Colin Herforth on guitar and Jeff Arndt on flute; and Ceoltóirí Sitka with members Debby LeVeck, violin and vocals; Steve Warren, guitar and vocals; and Bryan O’Callaghan, accordion and pennywhistle.
Photographer Jana M. Suchy’s 300 large photos will be on display. A book-signing, photo sales, refreshments and a no-host bar are scheduled.
The event is free and open to the public.
Auditions Set for
‘Paris of the Pacific’
Auditions for ‘‘Paris of the Pacific’’ melodrama will be 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24 and Thursday, Aug. 27 at the Pioneers Home Chapel.
The performance date is Oct. 17. Destony Rosas will direct the play.
Sitka Karate
Academy on Tap
Sitka Karate Academy will offer classes Aug. 10 through Sept. 12 at the Blatchley Middle School multipurpose room.
Classes are 5-5:45 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays for ages 6 and older ($85); 6-7 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays for adults ($85); and 10-10:30 a.m. Saturdays, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten ($40).
Registration is open at Community Schools at Blatchley Middle School.
Raven Board Meets
The Raven Radio board of directors will meet 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the station. For more information, call 747-5877.
Dementia Group
Meeting on Tap
Caring for Loved Ones Together, a statewide phone support group for those caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s and other dementia, will meet 2-3 p.m. Aug. 5 at Brave Heart Volunteers, in the Pioneers Home Manager’s House.
Pam Kelley, education director of Alzheimer’s Resources of Alaska, will lead the call. Kelly is also a care partner and attorney.
Alzheimer’s Resources of Alaska and Brave Heart Volunteers jointly facilitate the support group on the first and third Wednesday of each month for caregivers to gain understanding about ADRD, learn helpful tips and build support for each other. The call is appropriate for those providing care for a loved one in Sitka as well as for those providing care from a distance.
Participants are asked to come shortly before 2 p.m. and are welcome to stay after the call to lend support for each other. Individuals may also call in directly from their homes by dialing 1-877-216-1555, Code 927989. Registration is not necessary.

Book Signing Set
Chef Kirsten Dixon of Tutka Bay Wilderness Lodge will be on hand to sign copies of her latest cookbook noon Thursday, Aug. 20, at Old Harbor Books.
Mudball Discussed
The Mudball organizational meeting will be 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at Blatchley Middle School.
Those who want to help organize the tournament are invited to attend. Umpires, bookkeepers and field maintenance personnel are also needed.

The ‘‘Journey Off the Map, Unknown to Us, Known to Him’’ vacation Bible school will be 5:30-8:30 p.m. nightly Aug. 10-14 at the First Baptist Church.
