She was born Jan. 25, 1929, in Thomasville, Georgia, to A.J. Rutland and Louvinia Brundrick, the second youngest of 14 children.
She grew up in Georgia, and after high school and business college she joined the U.S. Navy, where she served for four years.

Sue enjoyed gardening, walking, listening to the radio, and shopping.
She joined the Pioneers Home family in 2010.
Sue is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy Sue and Lee, of Salcha, Alaska; her daughter of the heart, Susie Allensworth of Sitka; grandsons Ray Jordan and Scott Hottinger; and six great-grandchildren, Rachel, Zachary, Tyler, Johnny, Connor and Delylah.
