Michael Lofgran Dies at Age 58

Michael James Lofgran

 

Michael James Lofgran, a Sitka resident for the past 22 years, died Oct. 19, at Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center. He was 58.

He was born June 10, 1963, in Torrance, California. The family moved to Tacoma, when he was 10, and he moved from there to Sitka on May 3, 2000.

He worked as a cook in local restaurants, including Victoria’s and Westmark.

He was a member of the Sitka Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Bridget Lofgran, and his stepson, Nathan Cox.

No services will be held.

Jonathan Krebs, Sitka Economic Development Association director, said today he’s resigning to take a job in Ottumwa, Iowa. Krebs, who also is manager of the Sawmill Cove Industrial Park, has held the SEDA post for five years.

Gerry Helland of Sitka has been selected by the coaches to referee at the Alaska State High School Basketball Championships in Anchorage this weekend. Sitka and Wrangell are representing Southeast at the tourney.
