Ruth Marie Seng Dies at 85; Services to be Held in 2022

Ruth Marie Seng, of 311 Tlingit Way, died unexpectedly on Wednesday evening, October 13, 2021, at SEARHC Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center. She was 85.

She was born October 3, 1936, in Eastlake, Michigan, the daughter of Edward John and Marcella Adelaide (Guenthardt) Skocelas. She was a graduate of Muskegon Heights High School, class of 1954.

Ruth married William (Bill) Leo Seng on September 22, 1956, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muskegon, Michigan.  The couple moved to Manistee, Michigan, in 1959, where Ruth lived until 2011 when she moved to Sitka, where she enjoyed the good life.

Ruth really enjoyed people and any opportunity to laugh.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Bill on June 19, 1998, and by sisters Patty Lee and Anita Engleman.

She is survived by her daughter Wendy Seng and son-in-law Robson Hall of Sitka; and two sons, Jeffrey Seng and Ed and Cathy Seng all of Manistee; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a sister, Anna Lois Skoczylas of Fremont and brother-in-law Virgil Lee of Spring Lake both of Michigan.

Numerous nieces and nephews also survive her.

The Herbert Funeral Home of Manistee is in charge of funeral arrangements, which will be held in the spring of 2022.  Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee.

Jonathan Krebs, Sitka Economic Development Association director, said today he’s resigning to take a job in Ottumwa, Iowa. Krebs, who also is manager of the Sawmill Cove Industrial Park, has held the SEDA post for five years.

Gerry Helland of Sitka has been selected by the coaches to referee at the Alaska State High School Basketball Championships in Anchorage this weekend. Sitka and Wrangell are representing Southeast at the tourney.
