Eperu Tago Roe, 49, Dies; Sitka Resident Since 2000

Eperu Tago Roe

Services are pending for Eperu Tago Roe, a Sitka resident who died suddenly January 25. He was 49.

He was born March 28, 1972, in Malgeloa, American Samoa, the son of Manuuli Tusitala and Lefefe Johnny Roe.

He came to Alaska in 1994, living first in Kodiak, where he fished commercially, and then coming to Sitka in 2000, where he became a welder. He was working at Allen Marine Inc. at the time of his death.

Eperu had been a member of the Greater Sitka Pool League “for as long as anyone can remember,” his family said, and was playing in a tournament at the time of his death.

Those who knew Eperu, knew that his family was his priority. Among his favorite activities was going fishing with his kids in the summers.

He was kind and big-hearted, and wouldn’t hesitate to give the shirt off his back to help others. He was a strong person and a problem solver, and will be greatly missed, his family said.

He is survived by his mother, Manuuli Tusitala of American Samoa, his daughter Amanda Ivy Roe and his son, Scott Eperu Roe; and brothers and sisters in Arizona, California, Washington, and American Samoa.
