Alicia Elizabeth Ford-Towery
Former Sitka resident Alicia Elizabeth Ford-Towery, of Clatskanie, Oregon, passed peacefully on December 31, 2021, in Longview, Washington, after a two-month illness. She was 54.
Alicia was born October 6, 1967, in Everett, Washington, to Sharon and Richard Ford. She was the middle child, having an older brother and a younger sister. Her family lived in Everett until 1979 when they moved to Sitka with their mom. She graduated from Sitka High in 1985.
During high school, she was a member of the Sitka Police Department Cadet Program and after graduation she went through the Alaska State Trooper Academy Corrections Officer Training. She moved to Juneau following graduation to work at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center. Her son Matthew was born in Juneau in 1989. In 1993, they moved to Marysvillle, Washington, to be close to family and friends and so she could pursue other career options.
She moved to Clatskanie in 1997 where she worked as a caregiver for special needs adults. She loved her job and the people she cared for. She always said “I need them as much as they need me.”
She met her husband Brad in Clatskanie and they were married in 2018.
Alicia made friends everywhere she went. If she knew you, she loved and cared about you deeply. She kept in contact with all of her high school friends, kids she babysat, long-lost family members, and anyone she could. She was loving and forgiving and could always see the good in every person she came across, her family said.
She had an infectious laugh and a well-rounded sense of humor that she used to help herself and others cope with tough situations.
She enjoyed the outdoors the most, camping and fishing with her husband. Every September they traveled to the Lake Stevens, Washington, area to participate in the annual memorial ride for her brother Bruce.
She always had family and friends around and enjoyed all the children, too. Her son Matt lived nearby and they spent time on their days off catching up over coffee and doing things together.
Several friends and family were able to say their goodbyes, and her husband was at her side when she passed.
Alicia was preceded in death by her mother, Sharon Ford; her brother Bruce Ford; her maternal and paternal grandparents; and her Uncle Mike McCarty.
She is survived by her husband Brad and son Matthew Ford, both of Clatskanie; her father Dick Ford; sister Kristi (Jim) Koehn of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; stepsister Adrianne Ford of Hawaii; aunt Lynn McCarty of Everett, Washington; aunt Kathee (Al) Bigley of Sitka; and aunt Sherry Blake of Marysville.
Also surviving are cousins Suzy Jones-Friend and Ricky Jones, both of Mountlake Terrace, Washington; Richy Bigley of Homer and Ventura, California; Kaycee Bigley of Maple Falls, Washington; and Taysha Bigley of Bellingham, Washington.
Nephews Benjiman Bradshaw of Seattle, Tyler and Jason Koehn of Idaho, and nieces Victoria Ford and Jasmine Bratten of Hawaii.
“If you knew her, take from her, the willingness to forgive, the vision to see the good and the heart to love selflessly,” a family member said.
Services will be announced at a later date.
