William Davis “Bill” Luedke

William Davis “Bill” Luedke passed away unexpectedly at his home in Port Alexander on Friday, June 10, 2022.

Bill was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on October 14, 1952, to Edward and Margaret Luedke. He graduated from Whitefish Bay High School in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, and attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Bill loved nature and the great outdoors, and in 1973 followed his dream of moving to Alaska. After arriving in Alaska, Bill worked on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline for many years. He then moved to Juneau and became a commercial fisherman. Bill married his beloved wife Kim in Juneau in 1986, and later became the proud and dedicated father to their three sons, Daniel, Trevor and Michael.

From 1991 until 2002 Bill owned and operated The Hot Bite restaurant in Auke Bay during the summer, and was the food service manager at Eaglecrest Ski Area during winter.

In 2002, Bill moved to Port Alexander with his family, where he reported the weather for the National Weather Service and FAA. In 2006, he started Main St. Electric Power Supply to provide 24-hour electric power to local infrastructure. In recent years, Bill and Kim spent many happy winters in Mesquite, Nevada.

Bill was hard-working, generous, fun-loving, outgoing, always a good and helpful friend, loved his family, and never missed an opportunity to make you laugh. He will be deeply missed.

Bill is survived by his wife of 36 years, Kimberly; his three sons and their spouses, Daniel and Kelsey, Trevor and Margaret, Michael and Madeleine; granddaughter Cadence;  and brother August.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Scharlyn.

There will be a memorial service for Bill at Northern Light United Church in Juneau 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, and a celebration of life to follow at Sandy Beach, Savikko Park shelter.
