Willie James Wooten
Willie James Wooten, a man who loved children and music, died in Sitka on June 25, three days before his 55th birthday.
Willie was born June 28, 1967, in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Joe and Annie Bell Wooten. He was raised in Brooklyn until 1977, when the family moved to Mobile, Alabama.
Willie graduated from W.P. Davidson High School in Mobile, and for the last few years had come to Sitka from Miami, Florida, as a seasonal worker in the fishery industry.
Along with his enjoyment of kids and music, he truly believes in “Yahweh, God of the Israelites,” his family said.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Louis Wooten Sr.
He is survived by his mother, Annie Bell Wooten; his son Renwick James (Shantel) Tarleton; grandchildren Isaiah and Skylar Tarleton; sisters Lynne Denise Wooten-Lewis and Trina Kaye Wooten; and brother, Jose Wooten Jr. All are residents of Mobile.
The family plans to hold services in Mobile on July 23.

Thanks to the generosity and expertise of the the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska broadband department, Tidal Network ; Christopher Cropley, director of Tidal Network; and Luke Johnson, Tidal Network technician, SitkaSentinel.com is again being updated. Tidal Network has been working tirelessly to install Starlink satellite equipment for city and other critical institutions, including the Sentinel, following the sudden breakage of GCI's fiberoptic cable on August 29, which left most of Sitka without internet or phone connections. CCTHITA's public-spirited response to the emergency is inspiring.
