Sandra Dee Lyons

Sandra Dee Lyons, born on January 25, 1971, in Petersburg, passed away on June 11, 2023, at Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, at age 52.

Sandra Dee Lyons

Sandra came to Sitka in March 2021 for medical care, and loved her apartment on Hollywood Way. She made friends with her care providers and neighbors and always kept a hopeful attitude. In April of this year, she moved to the long-term care unit of Cordova Community hospital.

Sandra was a people person, made friends easily and tried to cheer her care providers.

As a young woman she was always on the go, hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time on her property at Point Agassi. Nine years ago, she was the log rolling champion of the Petersburg 4th of July festivities. Her great aunt Deborah Lyons (of Sitka) was her friend and advocate during her time in this community.

Sandra was preceded in death by her great-grandparents Casper and Amy Hallingstad; grandparents Myron Lyons Sr. and Gertrude Lyons; father Myron Lyons Jr. and mother Julie Owens; and sister Brenda Lyons.

Sandra is survived by her children, Holli Davis of Petersburg and Craig Weimer of Georgia, and two grandchildren.

The Petersburg family relatives are planning a celebration of life at the Petersburg ANB Hall at 4 p.m. on July 9.

Letters of condolence may by mailed to PO Box 2397 Sitka AK 99835.

Thanks to the generosity and expertise of the the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska broadband department, Tidal Network ; Christopher Cropley, director of Tidal Network; and Luke Johnson, Tidal Network technician, SitkaSentinel.com is again being updated. Tidal Network has been working tirelessly to install Starlink satellite equipment for city and other critical institutions, including the Sentinel, following the sudden breakage of GCI's fiberoptic cable on August 29, which left most of Sitka without internet or phone connections. CCTHITA's public-spirited response to the emergency is inspiring.
