Everett Allen Johnson (Shoowas.ein)

Everett Allen Johnson (Shoowas.ein), 64, of Sitka, died at SEARHC from COVID on August 6, 2024. He was born on January 31, 1960, in Juneau, to beloved parents Agnes and Joseph Johnson Sr. He was of Kaagwaantaan and from the Eagle/Wolf Box House.
A kind man who loved sharing memories, smiled often, and gave warm hugs to his friends and family members, he will be greatly missed. He was an active member of the Russian Orthodox Church where he attended regularly and was the first Sub Deacon. Everett loved being social in his community, sharing stories, and joking that he looked like Santa Claus with his long white beard. He greatly enjoyed watching his favorite football team, the Baltimore Ravens, and would jokingly say he was an Eagle who loved the Ravens.
Everett was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Florence Peters and George Gamble, paternal grandparents Ann Charles and Harry Johnson, parents Agnes and Joseph Johnson Sr., siblings Virginia Sam, Cynthia Johnson, Georgianna Chercasen, and Audrey Sam. He is survived by siblings Cheryl Duncan, Josephine Johnson, Joseph Johnson Jr., Henry Johnson Sr., Norman Johnson Sr., Michael Johnson Sr., and Jacob Johnson, and his three daughters and 14 grandchildren.
Married for many years to Twylia Osborne, he leaves behind his three children, Christina Reynolds (Charles), Stacy Roberts (Dustin Endicott), and Cara DiCicco (Joshua). He treasured time he spent with his 14 grandchildren: Romeo Brouillette, Aaliyah Messmer, Tyson Messmer, Anna Watson, David Thompson, Makayla Peter, Kiana Kroto, Isiah Kroto, Mariah Kroto, Amelia DiCicco, Celena DiCicco, Dominic DiCicco, Gianna DiCicco, and Micah Burnham-Endicott. He loved sharing stories with his friends about each of them.
Pallbearers will be Chad Titell, Joey Williams, Robert Nelson, Brandon Littlefield, John Andrew, Jacob Payena, Charles Reynolds, Dustin Endicott, and Charles Brouillette.
Honorary Pallbearers are Herman Davis Sr., Eloise Kanosh, David Kanosh, Lillian Young, Tom Gamble, Dan Gamble, and Bob Gamble.
Panikhida Service is 2 p.m. August 22, at Russian Orthodox Church.
Culture Service is 5 p.m. August 22, at the ANB Founders Hall. A potluck reception will follow.   
The Funeral Service will be 3 p.m. Friday, August 23, at the Russian Orthodox Church, followed by burial at the Russian Orthodox graveyard, and then a potluck reception at 6 p.m. at the Sheet’ka Kwaán Naa Kahidi, the community house.

Photo caption: Mary Lou Colliver presents Sitka Fire Dept. Acting Chief Dave Swearingen a check for $325 to help restore the 1926 Chevrolet fire truck originally purchased by Art Franklin. Colliver donated the money after her business, Colliver Shoes, borrowed the truck to use during Moonlight Madness.  The truck is in need of an estimated $20,000 worth of restoration work, Swearingen said.

November 1974

Sitka Community Hospital Administrator Martin Tirador and hospital board chairman Lawrence Porter told the Assembly Tuesday about the need for a new hospital to replace the existing 18-year-old one. The cost would be about $6.89 million with $2.2 million of that required locally.
