William Arnold “Bill” Church

Longtime Sitka resident William Arnold “Bill” Church passed away on Dec. 2, 2013, at SEARHC-Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital. He was 52.
Bill was born on Dec. 18, 1960, to Donald and Agnes Church in Seattle, Wash.
He became a resident of Alaska in 1975. He graduated from Ninilchik School on the Kenai Peninsula and than joined the U.S. Army and served our country for four years.
He found his passion as a fisherman and lived on his boat, the TUK, in the Sitka boat harbor for many years.
Bill was always cheerful and optimistic. He was honest, caring and a hard-working man. He loved the outdoors, his family and friends, but most of all, his cat Tuffy.
He is survived by five older siblings: Linda Roberts of Littlerock, Calif.; Donna and Tom Krizanic of Elk, Wash.; Donald Church Jr. from Spokane, Wash.; Cheryl Frazier of Anchorage; and Thelma Wood of Klawock.
He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews he cared deeply about. He will be missed by many.
A memorial service is being planned on Bill’s birthday, Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the Mariners Wall on Katlian Street  at 1 p.m. followed by a celebration of Bill’s life at the Pioneer Bar.

Thanks to the generosity and expertise of the the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska broadband department, Tidal Network ; Christopher Cropley, director of Tidal Network; and Luke Johnson, Tidal Network technician, SitkaSentinel.com is again being updated. Tidal Network has been working tirelessly to install Starlink satellite equipment for city and other critical institutions, including the Sentinel, following the sudden breakage of GCI's fiberoptic cable on August 29, which left most of Sitka without internet or phone connections. CCTHITA's public-spirited response to the emergency is inspiring.
