Charles Richard “Dick” Cox

Charles Richard “Dick” Cox was born May 22, 1927, and in his own words, moved on to the “next great adventure” Feb. 20, 2014.
Dick moved from Wisconsin to California in 1950, after the birth of his first child. Sixteen years later, he moved his family to Anchorage, where he was able to follow his passion of hunting and fishing. He became a Master Guide for two areas in Alaska, eventually moving to Yakutat and starting his own guiding business with his wife Marge. Dick, and Marge until her death, then lived in Sitka for about nine years. Dick later met and married Ruth in Molokai, Hawaii. More recently, Dick and Ruth moved to Lincoln City, Ore.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Cox of Lincoln City; daughter and son-in-law Karen and Tom Macklin of Sitka; daughter and son-in-law Dana and Ed Ward of Bangor, Calif.; daughter Kathryn Cox and grandchildren Zoe and Zachary Bergh of South Ryegate, Vt.; grandson and family, Ed, Stacy and Emma Crabaugh of Portland, Ore., and many others who included him in their family circle.
It was his request there be no service. His ashes will be taken to Yakutat, to join those of his wife of 58 years, Marjorie Cox. He wouldn’t want you to be sad – include him in your story – and continue to live to the fullest, as he showed us by example.

Thanks to the generosity and expertise of the the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska broadband department, Tidal Network ; Christopher Cropley, director of Tidal Network; and Luke Johnson, Tidal Network technician, SitkaSentinel.com is again being updated. Tidal Network has been working tirelessly to install Starlink satellite equipment for city and other critical institutions, including the Sentinel, following the sudden breakage of GCI's fiberoptic cable on August 29, which left most of Sitka without internet or phone connections. CCTHITA's public-spirited response to the emergency is inspiring.
