Claude K. Odell, formerly of Sitka, passed this life on Monday Oct. 6, 2014, in Pelican. He was 70.
Mr. Odell was born on March 25, 1944, in Juneau, the son of Bill and Henriette Odell. His family moved to Pelican in 1956.
He attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where he was on the Rifle Team. During the summers he was employed by the Pelican Cold Storage.
He served his country during the Vietnam era in the U.S. Army.
He commercial fished with his father on the F/V Emma and the F/V Sitka, and worked for Clear Creek Logging on the C-Lady out of Sitka.
He was a carpenter on the Blue Lake Dam in Sitka and for Sitka Sound Seafood.
In 1989, after about 20 years in Sitka, he moved back to Pelican where he used his carpenter skills to became an independent contractor. He was known for his outstanding work ethic and his attention to detail.
Claude was a longtime member of the NRA. He enjoyed hunting and clam digging, and was a team member in the Klondike Trail of ’98 Road Relay. Claude, his wife Caroline and their dogs enjoyed getting decked out for the 4th of July Parade.
He will be remembered for his sense of humor and unusual sayings.
Claude is survived by his children Kim Odell Andrews and Joe Kollar of Juneau; Shayne Odell and Michelle Pesonen of Astoria, Ore.; Tara Padon Goodson and Tim Goodson of Washington state; Bradelle Padon and Nick Hatch of Juneau; grandchildren Chaz, Tyne, Dylan, Calista and her husband Shea, Chadam, Jesse and Mason; mother Henriette Odell of Sitka Pioneers Home; brother Allen Odell and his wife Becky of Manchester, Tenn.; nephew Scott Odell and niece Amy Tweedale; three great-nieces; and many close friends.
Claude was preceded in death by his father, Bill Odell; and his wife, Caroline “Babe” Padon Odell.
The family would like Claude’s friends to join them in a Celebration of Life on Sunday, Oct. 26, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fly In Fish Inn in Sitka.

Police Blotter: Preston Williams reported $6 worth of gas was stolen from his vehicle while it was parked at the Kiksadi. Paul Garwood said two tires on the KSA-TV van were slashed while the truck was parked at the Hobby House. George Reid, Arrowhead Trailer Court said guns, steamer trunks and decanters valued at $1,500 were stolen by burglars. A telephone was reported detached from the booth next to the post office.
